TWENTY TWENTY

To each and everyone of us our government made a plea.

To stay home, protect our nurses and face adversity.

What could this hardship mean to man, woman and child?

A chance to be together? A time to reconcile?

There are the lucky few, it’s not at all a chore.

Yet flaws within four walls rise up with a mighty roar.

Tortured souls who know no different, it’s not our place to judge.

Just send them love and hope that their sadness soon will budge.

The frontline workers their duties they do not shirk.

Protecting elders, the sick and the needy, saying ‘it simply is my work’.

The cup of human kindness spills over in one and many.

Offering help and not expecting one single, solitary penny.

Heroes springing forth of every age and creed.

Wanting with all their hearts to perform a kindly deed.

One gentleman with pride and grace steadfastly walking on.

The inspiring enchanting courageous Captain Tom.

Then there are others, a breed who hardly stop to rest.

Those of our National Health Service delivering more than their very best.

Their heart and spirit tested beyond what we could bear.

Despite the odds still delivering tender loving care.

And when this is all over and life begins to flow.

We’ll mourn the lives lost and respectfully let them go.

We’ll remember their makeshift family who watched their final breath.

The doctors, nurses, carers showing compassion in their death.

We must remain thankful and simply beg their pardon.

We’ll take good care of ourselves to gently ease the burden.

Worthy wages, flood the funds, benefits a plenty.

Hold them up in high esteem and never forget twenty twenty.

With love,

Glynnis x
