PLANES, TRAINS & BEING GRATEFUL
Time away from home gives me the chance to forget the daily humdrum, to reflect and ponder my hopes and dreams for the future. Our recent Interrailing holiday was quite busy, definitely active and sometimes in need of careful family negotiations to cater for all our differing needs !!!
Initially, carrying a rucksack and hopping on and off trains didn’t sit well with me, especially being trapped on a German train, in 35 degrees with no air conditioning and various heavily perspiring bodies creeping into my personal space. My meditation skills were certainly tested, and my dream of sitting cross-legged on a beach somewhere was definitely a distant dream.
However, I quickly became accustomed to the routine of carrying and packing my rucksack, catching trains, sleeping in hostels, and not showering! walking, walking and then walking some more. My Australia trip some 25 years ago had been hidden in my past, but the skills I’d learnt were now becoming useful in the present.
After my sixth day of averaging 6 miles walking each day and being able to join in any activities the rest of the family were doing, it struck me how far I’ve come from the holidays when I couldn’t join in, had to get taxis whilst others walked, and sadly, my main focus was when and where I could lie down. In addition, I would be mentally carrying the strain of worrying about letting my family down.
I am so thankful I found the strength to fight for my health, because in doing so, it gave me back my life, a chance to engage with the world around me. It is so true that if you have your health, you have everything….And guess what, I did get my chance to sit, swim and meditate at the beach.
Finally, my dream for the future is to help as many people as I can to achieve their own good health and reclaim their lives.
Oh, and for me, continued well-being and a small beach house overlooking the sea!
With love,
